PROJECTS AND SPIN-OFFS

Major projects

Every year Università Cattolica invests own resources in institutional and inter-disciplinary projects on issues with significant scientific value and great social relevance, focusing on the crucial questions of living and living together:  the new frontiers of economics and bioethics, the conservation of cultural heritage, changes in the field of law, family dynamics, the phenomenon of the mass media, the development of political systems, the goals of medicine, technological applications in mathematics and physics, and the most recent discoveries in environmental research. During the last three years the university has invested in two relevant research topics: “The time of crisis: analysis of the causes and prospects for solutions" and "Lengthening life: an opportunity". These two large topics incorporate seven areas of research and have been made possible through funding of more than EUR 1M.
 


Working relationships with the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research

The Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) has funded 25 projects at national level, 5 of these being coordinated by Università Cattolica as part of the 2010-2011 Prin tender. The financing applies to 12 projects in the areas of social and humanistic sciences, 12 projects in the area of life sciences and one project in the field of physical and analytical chemistry.


Spin-offs

Spin-offs function as a tool to facilitate using research findings for productive purposes through the incorporation of capital stock companies. Up till now Università Cattolica activated seven spin-offs.


International projects

At an international level, the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (2007-2013), and now Horizon 2020 (2014-2020), are the main sources of financing for Università Cattolica's research activities. Since 2008 Università Cattolica has obtained co-financing totalling approximately EUR 19M for 76 projects. The university is coordinating 7 European projects as part of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development.
Over the years 2012 and 2013 Università Cattolica invested EUR 1M of its own resources in projects to research issues with significant scientific value and great social relevance, focusing on the crucial questions of living and living together:  the new frontiers of economics and bioethics, the conservation of cultural heritage, changes in the field of law, family dynamics, the phenomenon of the mass media, the development of political systems, the goals of medicine, technological applications in mathematics and physics, and the most recent discoveries in environmental research.
